  • read orally with fluency, accuracy, expression and understanding up to and including book 12 in the third grade reading program
  • usie previously learned phonetic skills designed to increase their speed and comprehension questions in complete sentences using information from a story

Math:
The learner will be able to...
  • recognize the place vlaue of numbers
  • know addition and subtractionfacts and be able to check problems with carrying or borrowing
  • know the multiplication tables 0-12
  • know division tables 2-12
  • know english and metric measures
  • know roman numerals 1-1,000
  • solve story problems with up to four steps
  • recognize and solve simple equations
  • convertmeasures and solve measurement equations
  • count money and solve money problems using the decimal point correctl
  • solve problems containing parentheses
  • know fraction terminology and have a basic understanding of fractions
  • average numbers
  • read a thermometer
  • recognize a variety of geometric plane shapes

Language:
The learner will be able to...
  • recognize and write a complete, declarative, interrogative and exclamatory sentences
  • use correct punctuation in a variety of written forms
  • recognize and write contractions, synonyms, antonyms and homonyms correctly in a variety of written forms
  • write friendly letters using chronological events inorder
  • write book reports that reflect a variety of information
  • recognize and use common and proper nouns, subjects and verbs in sentences
  • diagram simple sentences

Spelling:
The learner will be able to...
  • perform at 70% or better on weekly spelling tests
  • use spelling words in dictated sentences
  • edit written work for spelling errors

Science:
The learner will be able to...
  • study basic principals of the plant world
  • learn and recognize similarites and differences of vertebrates and invertebrates
  • learn different characteristics of life in the desert, ocean, pond, forest and farmer's field
  • learn about different kinds of weather

Social Studies:

  • develop an interest and appreciation for their american heritage
  • study biographies of great Americans
